People with Unique Style of Working

Every individual in this world is different with respect to thought processes, beliefs and so on. Likewise there are many people who have distinguished themselves with their own unique style of working.

Here are some of those:

Umberto Eco – Philosopher and novelist Umberto Eco creates havens anywhere by learning to inhibit the “empty spaces in our lives”. He can detach from his surroundings at will and focus, even if just for a few minutes, on a problem he’s working through, even while standing on line at the grocery store. Here is Eco “Say you are coming over to my place. You are in an elevator and while you are coming up, I am waiting for you. This is an interstice – an empty space. I work in empty spaces. While waiting for your elevator to come up from the first to the third floor, I have already written an article! These empty spaces in life are massive, just as they are in the universe.”

APJ Abdul Kalam – Our former president APJ Abdul Kalam had a different approach towards achieving targets. He always ensured that his work environment was charged with excitement and motivated his team members to bring up innovative ideas to attain the goals. As is said in his book “The Wings of Fire” -‘A large number of things were being done for the first time in the country and the ground- level technicians had no prior exposure to this kind of work. I saw new performance dimensions growing among my team members. Performance dimensions are factors that lead to creation. They go beyond competencies such as the skills and knowledge of the individual. Performance dimensions are broader and deeper than what a person must know and be able to do in order to function well in his or her job. They include attitude, values and character traits. They exist at various levels of the human personality.’

Mahatma Gandhi – “Christ gave us the goals and Mahatma Gandhi the tactics” – Dr Martin Luther King Jr. He got independence for India through truth and non-violence. He said “In a gentle way, you can shake the world”. Gandhi influenced the world through his soft leadership and proved that it’s not the physical strength that matters but the moral strength.

Bill Gates –Gates, founder of one of the most powerful companies of the world, Microsoft, is known for his wisdom in seeking council from others. A recent Forbes article has highlighted his efforts to improve his communication and public skills.

Abraham Lincoln, the 16th American President, had appointed the best and brightest to his Cabinet, individuals who were also some of his greatest political rivals. He demonstrated his leadership by pulling this group together into a unique team that represented the greatest minds of his time. Lincoln had the capacity to listen to different points of view. He created a climate where Cabinet members were free to disagree without fear of retaliation. At the same time, he knew when to stop the discussion and after listening to the various opinions, make a final decision.
