History Ernakulam Branch of SICASA of ICAI
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India is a premier professional accounting statutory body established in 1st july 1949 by an act of the parliament, i.e, The Chartered Accountants Act, 1949.
CA. G.P Kapadia was elected as the 1st president of ICAI. The 1st council was inaugurated by the then Honourable Commerce Minister Shri K.C Neogy on 15th August 1949.
FUNCTIONS OF ICAI
Presently CA. Subodh Kumar Agarwal is the President of ICAI with CA. K Raghu as the Vice President.
The institute has its head quarters at New Delhi and have five regional councils namely Western India Regional Council, Southern India Regional Council, Eastern India Regional Council, Central India Regional Council and Northern India Regional Council, located in Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Kanpur and Delhi. The ICAI has 138 branches altogether grouped under the Regional Councils based on the locations.
The institute is engaged in imparting education and training to the students conducts examinations for them and grants membership to successful candidates.
The Board of Studies is a wing of ICAI. The BOS imparts theoretical educations and training to CA students. They ensure highest quality and consistency by providing education material and other academic inputs from time to time. Board of studies not only looks into development of professional knowledge and skills but also inculcates professional values and ethics and attitudes. The board of studies also organises seminars conferences national conventions etc for the CA students to update their knowledge in different professional subjects. This academic wing of the Institute is headed by Chairman, CA. Vijay Garg and Vice Chairman, CA. V Murali
The Ernakulam branch is the wing of SIRC. The Ernakulam branch is the 1st branch of Southern India Regional Council of ICAI in Kerala and was set up on 1st December 1967. At present it is the 3rd largest branch in the southern region. The 1st chairman of Ernakulam branch was CA. T Velupillai .
The Ernakulam Branch of SIRC is represented at the Central Council by our strong member CA. Babu Abraham Kallivayalil and in the Regional Council by CA. Jomon K George
The First Branch of the Southern India Regional Council of ICAI in Kerala, the Ernakulam Branch, was set up on 1st December 1967
It is the largest Branch in the State with more than 1600 members and more than 6000 students. At present it is the 3rd largest branch in South India.
